Boost front-door confidence with the latest smart lock tech.
Build future-ready homes by choosing Matter-enabled devices like Gainsborough’s Freestyle Smart Wi-Fi Trilock.
Until now, the world of smart home devices has been a mess of different systems and apps. One light switch might work only with Alexa, while another sound system needs Google. Each one comes with its own setup process, logins and compatibility issues. For builders, that’s made it hard to confidently recommend and install powerful features like smart locks that work simply for their clients.
This is no longer a problem with the release of ‘Matter’ across select digital lock hardware, including Gainsborough’s Freestyle Smart Wi-Fi Trilock.

Matter is a new global software standard maintained by the Connectivity Standards Alliance of over 500 tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Apple, and Samsung. In the past, these tech giants have tried to overcome these difficulties across smart home devices by having their voice assistants as the ‘controlling layer’ on top, but this didn’t solve the problem that Alexa can’t talk to Google Assistant and vice versa.
The solution? Sitting above the network layer that runs your smart devices, Matter gives smart home products a common language so they can communicate reliably, regardless of brand (e.g., Google vs Apple) or platform (e.g., digital locks vs light switches).
Thread technology, which is integral to Matter, is specifically built for low-power, high-performance networks in smart homes. Unlike Wi-Fi, which can have irregular speeds and connections, Thread creates a dedicated, self-healing ‘mesh network’ so smart devices stay connected even in large homes or buildings instead of relying on a single router.
As a ‘common language’ for smart home devices, Matter can be run over different networks, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, but is especially built for Thread, a network technology specifically built for smart home devices.

A market-leader in smart lock technology
The Gainsborough Freestyle Smart Wi-Fi Trilock is one of the first Australian door hardware products to embrace this standard. Now enabled with ‘Matter over Thread’, the Freestyle is more reliable and easy to set up as an advanced lock system for your front door.

As an industry-leading digital door lock solution, it takes the promise of Matter and applies it where reliability matters most: at the entrance to a home. It’s a smart lock that finally delivers on the idea of a connected home that just works, giving builders confidence and homeowners control.
For builders, this means installing a smart lock that’s ready for today’s expectations and tomorrow’s updates. With the rapid pace of innovation in smart home technology, Matter ensures new devices and systems can easily integrate with older ones.
–
This long-term flexibility is one of its biggest advantages. The Freestyle’s local connection through Matter over Thread also ensures quick response times and strong security, while its familiar three-in-one Trilock design retains the physical reliability Gainsborough is known for.

Secure and connected with Matter
Security and efficiency are key with Matter-enabled devices, especially entrance doors. The integration of Matter over Thread ensures end-to-end encryption for communications, adding an additional layer of security to technology like digital lock hardware.
This means that homeowners can rely on their smart locks and sensors to perform consistently and remotely without worrying about breaches or privacy concerns.

Matter also focuses on local communication, allowing devices such as your digital lock hardware to function independently of cloud services. This reduces any latency and makes sure the Matter-enabled devices keep working even during internet outages.
