InspirationThe façade of any home is its first impression, a story told to guests and passersby. For this home, that story was tired, with a look that had long since lost its lustre.
The creative minds at Three Birds Renovations have helped the home’s owners shed its tired skin and give it a long-lasting fresh aesthetic. Through a thoughtful blend of materials, attention to detail and making the most of Corinthian Door’s Peninsula Collection, they have breathed new life into a modern architectural style.

Using texture to go from dated to dynamic
The biggest change the Three Birds team has made to this contemporary suburban two-storey brick home is to wrap it in stylish modern cladding.
Building on an architectural style with minimal ornamentation, the team sought to introduce more visual depth and unify the home’s two storeys through the choice of horizontal cladding. The muted earthy palette also expertly complements the metal green hues of the revitalised landscaping in the front.
The roof–overhang’s brick piers were given a facelift, with natural stone bases added to the fresh white columns to do two things: soften the stately home’s presence amongst the growing foliage while also helping to ground the home’s façade through more natural materials and textures.

Natural rhythm: the arbour over the garage
One of the standout features in the façade transformation is the addition of a custom-designed timber arbour above the garage. More than just a decorative flourish, this architectural element plays a crucial role in balancing the scale and presence of the garage, which previously dominated the street view.
Casting curved shadows across the square garage windows as the sun stretches across throughout the day, the arbour helps break apart the more geometric elements of the home, further softening it into its environment.

Unifying the design with a classic entrance
The team selected our Peninsula PPEN 2G door for the entrance, complementing it with an adjoining PPEN SL 2G sidelight, and finishing it in Dulux® Grand Piano. Helping to complete the entry is the Seine entry set in Matte Black, chosen for its sleek, modern profile and the bold contrast it provides against the lighter finish of the door.

The entrance door features narrow-reeded glass, playing beautifully with light throughout the day. In the evening, it comes into its own, glowing softly from within, with the sidelight casting subtle shadows that elevate the entry’s presence from the street.

The door’s moulding echoes elements found in both the original structure and the newly added features. This careful attention to design cohesion ensures that the front entry feels neither overly modern nor disconnected from the home’s original design.
